How does this work?

When a child loses a tooth, there usually isn’t time to order a letter from the Tooth Fairy and wait for it to arrive in the mail. That’s why we offer Tooth Fairy letters and certificates you can download, personalize and print right now!

  1. Choose your letter or certificate, then place your order.
  2. Download and personalize on your PC, Mac® or mobile device.
  3. Print and leave next to child’s bed or other place of your choosing.

A Tooth Fairy message is included with each letter as an example to assist you. There are also Free Messages from the Tooth Fairy on this website to help you quickly create a special letter for each child. For a short tutorial on How This Works, click here.

Each Tooth Fairy letter/certificate is created for use with Microsoft Word® and WPS Office. You will need to have access to one of those programs or a similar program to open, personalize and print your letters. If using Google Docs™, there could be changes applied to the text style and font. See the next question below for more information.

What kind of paper should I use?

The most common type of paper used in printers at home is multipurpose, white, usually 20lb. to 24 lb., 95 to 100 brightness, on an inkjet printer. This type of paper can be found at most office supply stores. We decided to have a little fun and experiment with this and other types of paper to see how they affect the overall look of our Tooth Fairy letters and certificates.

All tests were done with 8.5″ x 11″ paper on an inkjet printer.

      Here’s what we found:

      • Recommended
Standard, white, multi-purpose paper found at most office supply stores, 20lb. stock with a 96 brightness.

This paper works well and usually does not have any ink soak through the paper. It works with inkjet and laser jet printers. It will produce the desired result of a nice looking letter/certificate with good color representation.
      • Recommended
Digital copy paper, white, 28lb. stock with a 100 brightness.

This paper displays the colors of our images very well. It’s a slightly heavier weight and shows bends and creases more than the 20lb. stock. This is a good choice if you’re going to display the child’s letter or certificate. Some of our letters and certificates will work better with this heavier weight paper, especially those with color-intensive backgrounds. It also works with inkjet and laser jet printers.
      • Recommended (watermark alert!)
Fine linen paper, white, 24lb. stock, 25% cotton.

We absolutely loved the linen paper look and feel along with the vibrant display of color from our letters and certificates. Once again though is the drawback of a manufacturer watermark. If you can find one without a watermark, this would be a good choice. Or you could just pretend that the watermark is some kind of special stamp from the Tooth Fairy. This paper also works with inkjet and laser jet printers.
      • Recommended (with special effect noted below)
        Parchment paper, ivory, 24lb. stock.

This paper definitely has an old world flare that easily lends itself as coming from a place told of in fairy tales. The colors will wash out a bit and not be as bright as on the white stock paper. It’s something different to try if you’re looking for that special type of effect. There was no manufacturer watermark present. This paper works with inkjet and laser jet printers.
      • See recommendation details below
Digital copy paper, white, 60lb. stock with a 100 brightness.

This paper handles like a sturdy brochure, but not as thick and heavy as you would think. You wouldn’t want to bend this paper as the crease would leave wrinkles. This paper works well with a few of our Tooth Fairy letters and certificates due to the color-intensive background. However, we found that this heavier weight stock paper may cause some minor imperfections with less color in the background.
      • Not recommended
Resume paper, white, 24lb. stock, 100% cotton.

The major drawback for this type of paper is that it causes the colors of our letters and certificates to wash out and appear dull. There’s usually some kind of manufacturer watermark which could be in different positions on different pieces of paper. This type of paper is not recommended for use with our letters or certificates.
      • Not recommended
Parchment specialty cover paper, ivory, 65lb. stock.

This paper is very sturdy. The colors will wash out a bit with the ivory paper. The heavier paper stock also caused imperfections with our images. We do not recommend this type of paper for use with our letters or certificates.

We would love to hear your feedback if you’ve found other types of paper that work well. Let us know by sending a quick note on our Contact Page.

Why do the colors on my printed item look different than what’s on your website?

There are several reasons why colors may turn out slightly different than how they appear online.

        • The color settings and monitor resolution may not be the same on different devices.
        • Various operating systems and web browsers may have slight differences in color display.
        • There may be color differences when using an inkjet vs. a laser jet printer.
        • It could depend on the type of ink you’re using. Manufacturer, OEM, refillable and generic ink may have slight color differences.
        • As noted above, it could also depend on the type of paper you decide to use. This may create a dull or more vibrant look.
        • It might depend on which program you’re using to edit your letters.
        • There may be slight color differences when using a mobile device vs. a laptop or desktop computer.

Our letters are designed in a colorful, fun and whimsical fashion for the enjoyment of children. There may be slight color differences from time to time due to a large variety of digital, software and hardware causes beyond our control.
